New Skills for the New Year!

Learn to Crochet: The Basics

£35.00 | 6 people maximum

Are you crochet-curious? Or have you tried to teach yourself to crochet by following YouTube videos only to be left wondering why you always seem to end up holding a triangle at the end? If so, this class is for you.

We will talk through the anatomy of a crochet stitch, ways of tensioning your yarn and how to read your work. (Say goodbye to mystery triangles and wonky edges!) By the end of this class you will be well on your way to making a small pouch suitable for holding your phone, sunglasses or other small items.

British wool yarn, an ebony crochet hook and everything else you need is included.

January 10 | 1:00-3:30

Learn to Crochet: Texture

£50.00 | 6 people maximum

Do you understand the basics of crochet and want to take your making to the next level? This class is all about playing with texture and using your crochet hook to achieve striking effects.

During the first part of this class, we will explore a range of different textured stitches, how they are made, and when you might want to use them. In the second session, we will cast on a project that showcases our favourite stitch - or stitches! You will have the option to make a textured cowl or zipped pouch.

British wool yarn, an ebony crochet hook and everything else you need is included.

January 24 & February 7 | 10:00-12:00

Learn to Knit: The Basics

£65.00 | 6 people maximum

Do you want to learn to knit, but aren’t sure where to start? Perhaps you once knit endlessly back-and-forth until you had something resembling a scarf and wonder what comes next? Or maybe you’re baffled by circular needles?

In this three-part class, we will start at the beginning with how to cast on, knit and purl. We will practice achieving even tension, learn to read our work, and master how to tink back when we’ve made a mistake. By the end of the third session, you will have used different stitch combinations to knit a chunky cowl in the round.

British wool yarn, ebony circular needles and everything else you need is included.

January 10, 17 & 31 | 10:00-12:00

Learn to Knit: Socks

£55 | 6 people maximum

Would you love to be able to make your own hand knit socks that fit just right? This class is all about understanding how to knit a perfect-fitting pair of socks that will keep your feet toasty warm this winter.

Together we will explore the anatomy of a sock, and over the course of 3 weekly sessions we will knit a pair of deliciously woolly socks tailored to our own feet. In week one we will look at small circumference knitting in the round using double pointed needles and one long circular before casting on and working the leg. In week 2 we will demystify the magic that is the heel turn, and in the final installment we will look at finishing the toe and how to care for your socks.

British wool yarn, ebony needles and everything else you need is included.

January 17, 24 & 31 | 4:00-5:30

Learn to Knit: A Seamless Jumper

£170 | 4 people maximum

Does knitting a jumper feel daunting? Tackling a sweater project can feel like a big commitment of time, effort and money. What if you get to the end and it doesn’t fit? And after making all of the pieces, don’t you still have to tackle the tedious job of sewing it all together?

This class will let you in on the secret of knitting seamless sweaters in the round from the top down. You can try your jumper-to-be on as you knit to check the fit, and there are no seams to sew up at the end.

This class has six sessions over 10 weeks, taking the process nice and slow so that you feel supported every step of the way. By the end, you’ll have a sweater that you can be proud of, and may never want to take off.

You should already know how to knit and purl, preferably using circular needles.

The class price includes mini-skeins of three different British wool yarns for swatching, the pattern, and £75 of store credit.

You will also need (not included): a sweater quantity of yarn, circular and double pointed knitting needles in the size needed to obtain gauge with your chosen yarn, stitch markers, a darning needle.

Steek-along!!

free | 8 people maximum

Have you ever decided to knit a colourwork jumper or cardigan only to read through the pattern and be stopped in your tracks because it requires steeks*? If so, fear not - this informal make-along will help you conquer your fear of cutting your knitting once and for all.

During this informal make-along, we will discuss what steeks are and why they’re useful, important considerations when choosing yarn for a project with steeks, methods for reinforcing your steeks prior to cutting, and finishing techniques for securing your cut steeks.

Choose your own pattern (you can browse some of our favourites on Ravelry), and knit at your own pace. We will all cut our steeks together on March 28th!

*A steek is a vertical section of knit stitches added to a project with the intent of cutting it open.
